Gifyo is an 18+ service. Mature content is off by default and requires a verified adult account. This policy sets out what may be posted, how content is labelled, and how we act when a rule is broken.
Principles
- We classify what is depicted, not how it is rendered. Filters, dithering, pixelation, low frame rates, abstraction, and stylisation do not change classification. A stylised depiction is treated the same as a photographic one.
- Bodies are not the problem. Acts are. Gifyo is a place for aesthetic and artistic work, and the human body is part of that. What we restrict is explicit sexual activity, not nudity.
- Labelling is the creator's responsibility. We check, but we start from what you tell us. Deliberate mislabelling is treated more seriously than the content itself.
Definitions
Content — any video, still frame, caption, comment, tag, display name, avatar, or profile text published on Gifyo.
Mature content — content that is not suitable for a general audience: nudity, sexual themes, suggestive framing, strong language, depictions of violence or injury, or references to drugs and alcohol.
Explicit sexual activity — visual depiction of sexual acts, or content whose composition centres on genitalia for sexual purposes. Applies equally to captured footage, drawings, renders, generated imagery, and heavily stylised or abstracted work.
Minor — any person under 18; any depicted figure who appears to be under 18; any figure presented as being under 18. Stated age is irrelevant.
Content tiers
Tier 0 — General
Default. Visible to all registered users. No nudity, no sexual themes, no graphic violence, no drug references.
Tier 1 — Mature (label required)
Permitted. Off by default. Visible only on accounts that have completed adult age assurance and enabled mature content in settings. Graphic sexual content is not permitted at any tier.
Includes:
- Nudity, including artistic and figure work
- Suggestive posing and framing
- Crude or comic sexual humour
- Stylised or symbolic sexual imagery that is not explicit
- Depictions of violence, injury, or blood that are not gratuitous
- Strong language
- Depictions of drug or alcohol use
Creators must apply the correct label at upload. Where more than one label applies, apply all of them.
Tier 2 — Not permitted
Removed on detection. No label makes this content acceptable.
Sexual content
- Explicit sexual activity, in any medium or style
- Content centring on genitalia for sexual purposes
- Pornographic material in which violence or disrespect toward a person is manifested
- Sexual content depicting animals
Depictions of minors — absolute
- Any sexualised depiction of a minor, in any medium, style, or degree of abstraction, whether captured, drawn, rendered, or generated, and whether or not the figure is presented as fictional. No exception exists under this heading.
Non-consensual sexual material
- Pornographic material depicting or using a person without that person's consent, including synthetic, manipulated, or "deepfake" imagery, and including material that was consensually created but not consensually shared. Reports in this category get their own priority route.
Other
- Gratuitous gore, or real depictions of death, serious injury, or cruelty
- Content promoting self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating
- Content promoting terrorism, or targeting people for violence or hatred on the basis of a protected characteristic
- Content depicting or facilitating trafficking, exploitation, or prostitution
- Solicitation or promotion of paid content — posting in order to drive subscriptions or payments elsewhere
- Unlawful content under Czech or EU law not otherwise listed
Historical and documentary work
Works of recognised historical, artistic, journalistic, or educational significance may be permitted at Tier 1 even where their subject matter would otherwise fall under Tier 2, provided they are correctly labelled and context is clear from the caption. Narrow, human-assessed, and never applicable to depictions of minors.
Labelling
- Label at upload. Labels can be added later but not removed by the creator once applied.
- Cover frames, thumbnails, avatars, and profile banners must be Tier 0 regardless of the content behind them.
- A mature label does not exempt content from scanning. Everything is scanned.
- A mature label does not make Tier 2 content permissible.
Under-labelling — publishing Tier 1 content without a label — is the violation we act on most consistently, because it exposes people to content they chose not to see.
Enforcement
| Situation | Action |
|---|---|
| First under-labelling, apparently unintentional | Auto-relabel, notify creator, no strike |
| Repeated under-labelling | Strike. Trust score reduced. Invite allowance to zero. |
| Tier 2, non-minor, non-NCII | Removal, strike, account review |
| Non-consensual sexual material | Immediate removal, permanent ban, preservation for the depicted person's legal use, priority handling |
| Sexual content depicting a minor | Immediate permanent ban, content preserved, referral to authorities |
| Evasion of detection | Permanent ban. Invite subtree flagged for review. |
Three strikes within twelve months results in suspension.
Reporting and appeals
Any registered user can report any content or account from within the app. We aim to act on reports within 24 hours. Reported content in Tier 2 categories is hidden pending review rather than after it.
Where we remove content or restrict an account, we tell you what was removed, which rule it fell under, and how to appeal. Appeals are reviewed by a person. Urgent reports of illegal material can also be sent to security@gifyo.app.
Profile links
Every account may list up to five external links. Links appear only on the profile, behind a Links button — never in the feed, in posts, or in comments. Each link shows its full destination address and opens in your device's browser. Comments and captions carry no links.
Age assurance
Gifyo is 18+. Mature content additionally requires verified adult status, not a self-declared birthdate. We meet this using age signals supplied by Apple and Google, which confirm an adult age bracket without disclosing identity to us. We do not collect identity documents and we do not perform facial age estimation on account holders.
Automated systems
We use automated systems on every upload before publication, without exception, including on content its creator has labelled mature:
- Perceptual hash matching against databases of known child sexual abuse material, provided by child protection organisations
- Automated classification of video frames for nudity, sexual content, violence, and apparent age of depicted persons
Automated systems assist human decisions; they do not replace them beyond automatic relabelling. Content our systems cannot classify with confidence is routed to human review and is not published in the meantime. Content is analysed as captured, prior to any creative filter being applied.
